(Asheville, NC) Children in our community now have gained a second fall in the battle against hunger this summer as the Fourth Annual Ingles / Eblen Headlock on Hunger Food Drive collected more than ten tons of food last Wednesday for the Headlock on Hunger outreach that has served tens of thousands of children since its inception.
Beginning at four am and running through seven pm hundreds of Eblen supporters, companies, organizations, vendors, volunteers, and wrestling fans joined Ingles Markets, Eblen Charities, and WWE Hall of Famers four-time WWE Woman’s Champion and National Headlock on Hunger Vice- Chair Beth Phoenix, and leader of the legendary Four Horsemen and WWE hall of Famer James J. Dillion as they joined together to fill a 53 foot Ingles tractor-trailer with food to be distributed to children and their families this next week.

“We are excited and most grateful to Ingles, their vendors, and our other partners once again, as well as Beth and J J for joining us for the Headlock on Hunger Food Drive this year. We are most certainly grateful to all the wonderful folks, companies, and organizations that gave so generously this past week to help ensure that no child in our community has to face hunger while away from school this summer.

“I am honored and thrilled to have been offered the role of National Vice-Chair for Headlock on Hunger. This local effort is near and dear to my heart because, being a mother to two beautiful little girls, I know how important it is to nourish our children’s bodies, challenge their minds and meet their needs,” states Beth. “No child should feel empty. A full tummy is a basic necessity for a child to be able to learn, grow and play. Most of all, every child deserves to feel nurtured and loved. I am so proud to be a part of Headlock on Hunger and the continuing effort of our community to end childhood hunger for good!”

Our thanks also to our partners WLOS-TV, iheart Radio, Asheville Citizen-Times, Arby’s, the Brumit Restaurant Group, and WNC Wrestlers in Business, A-B Tech, AvL Technologies, Beverly-Hanks & Associates, Kimmel and Associates, Wells Fargo Advisors, and Wilson Art International.

An outgrowth of the Ingles / Eblen Food for Thought Program and the Arby’s / Eblen Joyfull Holidays at Home, Headlock on Hunger brings together public, private, and sports organizations to help provide meals for students who may not have enough to eat at home during the extended holiday breaks.

Food collected from the drive will be distributed through Buncombe County Schools, Asheville City Schools, and resource centers directly to students and their families. For more information on Headlock on Hunger please contact Bill Murdock at 828-242-2848 or via email at [email protected]
